Tweed Fabric
The tweed ranges have been introduced just recently to compliment our comprehensive range of tartans and tartan products, which have been supplied by us through our web site at www.tartantime.co.uk since 2002. As we are based in Scotland, many of the tweed fabrics, tweed hats and tweed ties originate from Scotland, which as a country, is renowned for its quality Estate Tweeds, as much as its tartans. You may also be interested to know that with the exception of the tweed check Barnton cap, which is made in Scotland in a range of 12 check tweeds, all our hats and caps are Made in England, the home of quality hat making for many years.

Further information on our Tweed Fabric, Tweed Hats and Tweed ties.
Our tweed fabric comes in ranges of lightweight, medium weight and heavy weight. The lightweight tweed fabric is a 10 oz. weight cloth, which is about 330 g/lm (grams per linear metre) and suitable for clothing and curtains. Then the medium weight tweed fabric comes in at 12 to 13 oz.; about 400 g/lm, and can also be used for tweed clothing, curtains and also furnishings. Finally the heavy weight tweed fabric, being 16 oz. and heavier, is in the region of 500 g/lm and makes ideal upholstery fabric as well as clothing tweed and heavyweight curtaining.
The standard tweed fabrics discussed above are mainly produced in Scotland and come as a double width material size, i.e. 140 to 150 cm wide. However, in the Harris tweed fabric ranges, which is nearly all heavy weight tweed, you can purchase both single width tweed fabric at 75 cm wide as well as the double width, 150 cm wide tweed fabric. Harris tweed fabric is made in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland only, and like the standard tweed fabric, has many uses including furnishing tweed (for upholstery, cushions and curtains), clothing tweed, and as a tweed fabric for making bags, shoes and crafts.
A common use for tweed fabric is tweed hats and we offer ranges of gents tweed hats as well as ladies tweed hats. The gents tweed hats are mainly flat caps ranging from the everyday peaked caps like the Hereford, the Irish tweed fabric: Kilarney hats, Barnton flat cap hats with 12 check tweed patterns and some Urban design tweed hats. Men's tweed hats are warm, everyday wear and also look good at sporting events and on the golf course. As mentioned we also do ladies tweed hats. There are seven different tweed hat designs in the ladies hats section, which use in the main a Shetland tweed fabric.
Our tweed ties are also made in Scotland and all from the Scottish tweed fabric. We have the lightweight Ettrick check tweed ties, the medium weight Glen Tilt check tweed ties and the Callanish and Islay tweed ties. The latter two ranges of tweed ties are all plain coloured: the Callanish has 8 tweed tie shades and the Islay, 13 tweed tie designs. All our tweed ties are, however, available in a few days from stock and some of the tweed ties, like the Ettrick tweed and Glen Tilt tweed, have matching tweed hats, which can be accessed from the tweed hats listing page.
